• Do I have to be an artist to attend Dr. Sketchy's?
No. Lots of people who have never drawn before attend Dr. Sketchy's. We're a fun, non-judgmental environment to try your hand at drawing.• What's an Art Monkey?
That would be you. You come to Sketchy's, you draw, your an Art Monkey (a true honor!)• Do serious artists go to Dr. Sketchy's?
Yes, including world famous ones like Ron English, Alasdair Grey and Audrey Kawasaki. While we are accepting of non-artists, there's no reason you can't go to Dr. Sketchy's to seriously get your draw on.What to bring
A Dr. Sketchy's drawing session will typically run about three hours, starting from short warm-up sketches and working up to full 15 or 20 minute poses. Your invited to bring with you just about anything and everything from a #2 pencil to a full easel. If you desire to work in a wet medium such as oil, acrylic or watercolor, we ask that you bring with you a drop cloth and the necessary solvents and supplies needed to clean up any spills...our hosts are generous with their space and we don't want to damage anything.
Rules
• Applaud the model.
A Sketchy’s model is a cross between a muse for your artistic inspiration and an athlete. Imagine posing perfectly still for three hours in front of a crowd of silent, staring strangers. Now, imagine doing that in a G-string!
• Tip the model.
Again, their job is waaay harder than it looks, and if we don’t show our appreciation, they may not return!
• No photography.
Our models are here for a modeling session not a free photo shoot, so please refrain from collecting cell phone images to add to your private voyeuristic photo collection. An exception may be provided to members of the press, but we must first be notified and get permission from the model before photos may be taken.
• Respect our Host.
Our generous host has done plenty to provide us a place to play, so please, no doodles on the walls or furniture. But more importantly tip the bartenders and surrender any smuggled flasks.
